This project belongs to Mrs. Nihla Sliwa , her successful story is below:
Nihla is a 40 years old housewife; she was one of the participants in the training of "How to start- up or Improve small business. Before two years ago, exactly in Dec 2006, after she finished the training she tried hard to get loans from one of the MFIs to start up   her project but no one funded her because she was a start-up. She didn’t give up. After 2 years she start up her small business without getting any loans or grants from MFIs or banks; her project was the Women Fitness Center. She chose this project to benefit herself then to benefit women and girls who need to lose some weights. Moreover, she hired two women with her so they can help her in managing her business.
Nihla started her project in September 2008, and she has more than 100 women and girls who participated in the center.
Nihla now is very happy about her small project and she is looking to improve it more and more.   Helen Beauty Center
Ramina participated in the first training of "How to start- up or improve small business " in Dec 2006.
She is working with her mother at the Beauty center for Women so she had her own business. However; she tried to get benefit from the information that she learned from the training to develop her business so she took a loan from one of the MFIs  ( Al-thiqa) to buy new equipment for the shop but the loan was taken under her mother’s name (Mrs. Helen) cause she had more financial guarantees .
After hard work, they succeeded in refunding the full amount of the loan at the exact time.
The important impact that she took from the training was how to make the plan to develop her business, and now they have plans to expand their project by building a centre for teaching the art of hairdressing. They also are trying to get a loan to start their new project.    Sewing Project
Mrs. Parween Mohammed was one of the participants in the training course of (how to start up a small business) for the period from 21 to 25 June 2008. After the end of the session, she had decided to start with her swing project. She didn’t have the  enough financial resources  so  it was a good opportunity for her to know more about the financial institutions especially  about AL Thiqa MFI,   because they are the ones who  supported the start-up projects and that led her to go to AL Thiqa for obtaining  the loan ,The loan  amount  was  $ 2,500 for  purchasing her sewing  equipment and now she is making payments to Al-thiqa.
Ms. Parween chose this project because she liked sewing and she began this project in her home. Her daughter was helpful in this project and was able to attract good customers. Parween said that the training was very useful for her and her benefits can be seen as below:
1-     She learned about project management and how to develop a small business. She said that she is ready to participate in any training courses related to the same subject or the other subjects related to women's awareness.
2-     On the other side, she has benefited through the knowledge of financial institutions such as Al-thiqa Institute to help people to start up their project and now she thinking of expanding her project and getting the second loan in order to buy more equipment, and also will hire people in this project to help her.  Frame Company
Ms. Awaz, was one of the participants in SBDC trainings in 2008.
When she came, she had only a small office, and at the end of the training, she decided to enlarge her project and make a big company for advertising and film production. As she said, she has transferred all the training information to her husband Mr. Mouslih and now they are working together in their company.
Regarding the obstacles that she talked about, she is in need of grants to buy film production equipment, and she planned to make one of her company’s room  a salon (beauty center) but this also needs money to start with. In addition, she showed her readiness to enter other training on   how to improve a business in WEO. One of her famous works was (Another Mother), the short drama that she produced with WEO in March 2008 (on woman’s global day)  Ana Lind Kindergarten and Nursery
Ana Lind Kindergarten and Nursery which belongs to Ms. Lajan,   one of the participants in SBDC trainings in 2007.
When she came, she had only one building for the kindergarten so at the end of the training she decided to enlarge her project and make it in two buildings (one for the nursery and the other for the kindergarten).
she made it and now she planned to open Ana Lind’s private school for those children who graduate from her kindergarten after being 6 years old, to go directly to the private school. Below are some photos of her kindergarten and nursery:        The Self Challenge of a Divorced Mother Drives Her to Start What She Calls Her" UNIQUE" Business.
Nakhsawan N. Fatah, a mother of two, had some critical problems with her husband that lead them to divorce. her psychological state was so bad, and she was very frustrated. Fortunately, she realized that it was time to stand up on her own feet and challenge herself despite her depression and since she had to take care of her two kids. She decided to find a way to give them a prosperous and good living. An invitation by WEO was sent to her to attend the training course of" How to Start up and Develop Small Businesses. She attended the course without having any information on how to run or manage a business. In the intensive five-days course she took, she learned lots of useful lessons including how to: choose the right business, get official licenses and permits, general financing and accounting, preparing income statements on a monthly basis as well as how to do feasibility study to know if her business will be successful and what profits it will make. Immediately after the course was over, she decided to open what she calls a "Unique" nursery since it admits babies from 0 to 4 years. The unique service she provides is that it is open 24/7 and that parents having unforeseen circumstances, including sudden sickness, a close family members death or any other emergency circumstances can leave their loved ones with her at any time of the day. She worked hard to get the approvals and certificates from the local authorities and finally got it all done officially. With the logistic assistance of her father, they both agreed to allocate his house for this project. The basement and ground floor were allocated as a nursery, while she and the rest of her family were living on the first floor.
Nakhshawan did not only find a way to finance and sustain herself, but also others as she also employed nine of her family members to work with her. The nursery will be starting admitting babies soon. There are already twenty babies on the waiting list. It's worthy mentioning that the capital of her project is $20.000. She has not applied for any loan from the MFIs.
Nakhsawan says" Not only I am sustaining myself, but I am also serving the parents who are really in an urgent need of assistance". Erbil Manpower Company
Talan, a young married woman decided to start up and run her own business. She decided that the firm she owns should be of public interest and to be dedicated to provide job opportunities for experienced individuals seeking a job. Her company "Erbil Manpower Company" is the first private company in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq providing employment opportunities for job seekers. Its mission is to promote the creation of new jobs for unemployed people, help strengthening the Kurdistan regions economy and promote a civil society culture .The training Talan attended at the end of August 2007 in WEO was just on time as she was new to the private sector. The five days intensive course gave her progressive steps benefiting her company in terms of increasing the number of the staff from 2 to 6, learning the methods of how to attract public awareness via media and advertisement In addition to that, the decision was made to change the location of the office so it can be located in a more strategic area besides having a bigger space to conduct training courses. The financial analysis and management was also of a crucial benefit to her.
