Ceremony report for the   Income Generation project

The Income Generation project for Widows in Khabat is project funded by the French Embassy. The duration of the project is 1 year, starting from 2/1/2011 ending, in 30/12/2011.  The aim of the project is to provide the basis upon which to create a source of income for 100 vulnerable widows in the Khabat District.
Our objective is empowerment hoping to facilitate that the widows will be better qualified to enter the job market, get jobs in better work places to improve the economic situation of these vulnerable women. This improvement will also benefit the children and families of the widows and hopefully help them become more active and powerful participants in the society.

First WEO provided the widows with training courses in handicrafts and literacy.  The second step of the project was a training for the widows on how to start their own small business. Additionally WEO offered vocational training to the widows on sewing and hair dressing for those who were interested in these types of jobs.  The end goal is to provide them with grants to enable them to use their newly acquired skills to create their own small business and achieve stable economic revenue for themselves and their families.

On Thursday 28/07/2011 WEO held a ceremony for the trainees who participated in the Income Generation project to celebrate their completion of the program. The French Consular Frederick Tissot, the Khabat Mayor Rezgar Mustafa and the Khabat’s education representative were invited. Mr. Dastan the project manager started the ceremony with a welcome speech. Later, Mrs. Suzan (WEO general director) briefly explained the aim of the project and thanked the parties who helped this project to come into existence and become a success. She also passed on good wishes to the widows who took part in the training. Later they invited the Khabat mayor to give his speech. He welcomed all the guests and wished for WEO to do more of these kinds of activities in the area because plenty of poverty and deprived people live in Khabat. Subsequently, the French ambassador wished the trainees a bright future, and encouraged the widows to stand up for their rights. Last but not least, the education representative welcomed the guest to Khabat and encouraged WEO to organize more of this type of projects that serves humanity in particular female heads of households. At the same event an exhibition was organized, so the clothes designed were shown by the trainee’s children.  The Khabat Mayor gave each one of the 10 children who participated in the exhibition 50,000 ID. Finally, the certificate was distributed to the widows and the successful completion of the program celebrated.
