On April 10th .11 WEO in collaboration with the PRT started the awareness campaign sessions for the Breast cancer, Osteoporosis and the FGM. for Koya's District.The session held in Kurdistan Women's Union in Koya's District. The attendees were all from Koya itself and there was an Imam "religion man" with a specialized gynecologist.
Ms. Shahrazad Alabdaly "WEO Project Manager" started by welcoming the attendees and providing a brief explanation on the Women Empowerment Organization works; how it concentrate on raising women's affairs and establish health, education, religious and social in different regions of Kurdistan.
After that the Doctor provided important information related to osteoporosis in women, how important to early detect the breast cancer and the risk of neglecting this. Also talked about extensive information regarding the circumcision of girls and its negative effects on physical and mental health and sexual girls later.
The religious Imam gave adequate information about the prohibition on the tradition of female genital mutilation (which it usually been in the Islamic religion) and the impact damaging effect on the family structure and marital relations. He also gave a group of Quranic verses and Sayings of the Prophet Mohammed's as examples to prove about the faults of this habit. There were printed posters to educate the attendees, also they distributed some of folders to give information and illustrations on how to detect breast cancer early. They also distributed booklets on female circumcision and damaging and how is it forbidden in Islam. Lastly the doctor and Imam gave the attendees the opportunity to ask questions which increased a positive experience and trust for the attendees.
At the end the conclusion of the seminar thanked the audience and inviting them to visit the organization if there is a need to ask for assistance or guidance.
These awareness campaigns sessions will keep providing for the next six weeks, each day for different places in Koya district.
